  1. Dennis, those things are hard to watch. I hope David Booth isn’t too badly hurt, but these kind of injuries could end careers. Looking at the last replay, it seems to be clear that Spacek had no intent to injure. In fact, he didn’t even take a run at him. It was more like Spacek held his ground and Booth ran into him at full speed – Booth had his head down. Then the laws of physics took over. I hate when this kind of stuff happens. I always think how the players’ wives and family must feel.

All the best to David for a full and speedy recovery.

  2. Danno, it’s one of those things that happens in sports sometimes. You’re absolutely right that Spacek meant no real harm, he just stood his ground. Spacek’s a pretty solid character and it was a clean hit. We used to see checking like that more often but it’s pretty well gone from the game. Not the dangerous headshots, but clean hits that do damage. I hope he’s okay too.

  3. Dennis, I’m not a big fan of Steve Harper, but I got a chuckle out of this one:

STANSTEAD, Que. – Even Prime Minister Stephen Harper is making jokes about the Toronto Maple Leafs this season.

At the announcement of a new arena named for former NHL coach Pat Burns on Friday, Harper recalled Burns coaching the Toronto Maple Leafs to a conference final appearance in 1993.

“But he didn’t win the Stanley Cup, which goes to show that when it comes to the Leafs organization, a coach can take a team a long way, but only God can do miracles,” Harper said with a laugh.

Harper grew up as a Leafs fan in Toronto.

  4. Hah. Good one, Danno. Harper could’ve been in our contest. Not win, but be in. Somebody more deserving took that honour. I’m not a big fan either but he likes hockey and his wife isn’t bad looking.

  5. Yes Dennis, Steve Harper is probably one of the thousands of people who often come to your site and browse but are too shy to give their first comment. Come on Steve, I’m sure with your vast hockey knowledge you have something to add to the discussion here. Please share it with us. We welcome everyone. Even Leaf fans!

  6. Little Stevie, which one was he? The kid in the Spencer Davis group, the blues guitarist in Double Trouble, or was he the mobster in the E Street Band? No wait, I remember big Stevie Harper playing the piano a couple months ago. He must have been the piano playing little blind black kid.
