  1. Dennis, fortunately Schultz hasn’t read George Laraque’s code book.
It’s about time the Habs have a guy who can stand up and defend the team when the going gets tough. He dropped the gloves 18 times last year and served 150 penalty minutes last season with the Calgary Hitmen.
Some have compared his abrasive style to other grinders such as Scott Hartnell or Jarkko Ruutu.
But there is another side to him. And this is the bonus. Last year in the WHL, Schultz racked up 55 points in 70 games with 24 goals (which includes 10 power play goals).
At 20 years old, this 6’2″, 205-pound right winger shows great promise.
Hopefully, he will develop even further with the Bulldogs next season to one day become a key part of the Canadiens roster.

  2. Danno, this guy makes me pretty excited. Montreal doesn’t have someone like this. I thought Moen and O’Byrne might be feisty like this but they’re not. I really, really like what I see.

  3. I’m hoping he’ll be like Shayne Corson. Tough, with scoring and leadership. He was one of my favourite players from the time he was a Hamilton Steelhawk until he became a Leaf.

  4. Chris, I appreciated Corson too when he was a Hab. It would be great if Schultz was like him – tough with good hands. I remember when Corson was a great player in the World Juniors.

  5. Dennis, I’m wracking my brain and ransacking my home trying to figure out if I went to one of the WJC games in Hamilton in ’86 when he was the leading scorer. I could have sworn I was at the opening game of Copps Coliseum which I thought was the WJC, but looking at the dates I’m not so sure. Although I keep everything, I can’t find the ticket stub.

Do you remember the player stickers that Loblaws used to give out in the early 70s? More bad news, I just found my album, which has been badly water damaged.

  6. Christopher, I do remember the stickers. But they’re like cats, they don’t like water!
