Red To Relax
June 8, 2012 in Bernard Geoffrion, Montreal Canadiens Tags: Bernard Geoffrion, Montreal Gazette, Montreal Star, Red Fisher, Stan Mikita
Red Fisher, who covered the Habs from 1955 till 1979 for the Montreal Star, and then the Gazette from 1979 until now, has decided to retire. I have no idea why. He’s only 85 for cripes sakes.
And talk about Murphy’s Law. He’s going to be tending his garden next spring while the Habs are going all the way.
Thanks for your great work over the years, Red. Other than Playboy photographer, I think you had the best job on the planet.

Fisher is retiring? First Dirk Irvin, now Fisher. Where will I hear those long rambling stories about how great this player was, or this specific team?

Tom, you were never forced to read them in the first place.

God bless you Red. May you receive a long and loud standing ovation at the Bell Centre in honour of your legendary work.
Enjoy your l-o-n-g weekend!

I hope all’s well and Red will have a well deserved long, healthy and enjoyable retirement. The Canadiens should honour his contributions with season tickets to the seats beside Beliveau.
Unfortunately I’m a pessimist, I worry that there is some untold bad news. I believe that if he really wanted to retire, he would have done so 20 years ago. I think it’s a Confucius saying “Choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life.”

Christopher, perhaps in this case your pessimism is more skepticism, which is a healthy thing. You make an excellent point.
