Prize Time

Very soon, in a day or two, I’m drawing a name from the ones sent in and a winner of some nice prizes (21 prizes in fact) will be picked.

I wouldn’t say it’s been an overwhelming success, maybe 50 people have decided to enter, but that’s fine, and the whole idea was to (a) try to make my house a little tidier because I’m not getting any younger and there’s no guarantee my grandkids will appreciate this stuff, and (b) I wanted these great things to go to a reader as opposed to listing them on ebay because my blog is a big thing for me but is nothing without readers.

So it’s my way of saying thank you.

This is my last reminder before Gaston picks a name from the fedora. Maybe next time around I’ll just give things away without a contest. I haven’t decided yet. But believe me, I still have way too much.

You can enter as many times as you want, and all you have to do is tell me one small thing about either Orillia, Ont, my birthplace, or Powell River, BC, where I live now. It’s just a google away. As long as each time you enter you give a different fact about either place.

And once again, because I know there was some confusion the last time – all 21 items go to one person.

The prizes are things I’ve collected over the years, and now they can be yours. Also, I encourage any previous winners to enter again. There’s no law saying a person can’t win twice.

And the prizes are pretty darn good.

  1. So we just post the facts here?

Is every comment a different entry?

Anyways, here’s a fact about Orillia: Gordon Lightfoot is from there.

  2. Orillia was the first municipality in North America to introduce daylight saving time and had the first municipal hydro electric transmission plant in North America.

  3. The BC ferry workers are the salt of the earth.

In November 2009 they made a daring rescue to save a 63-year-old Powell River resident who had gone overboard on the Powell River to Comox ferry.

Here is the report from A Channel…

Here is footage of the actual rescue…

  4. Orillia is the same distance from London Ontario as Brigend in Wales is from London England – 181m

(And please don’t ask me to walk it again just to make sure as it took me nearly all day)
