Price Named No. 1 For The Week

October 31, 2011 in Boston Bruins, Carey Price, Edmonton Oilers, Montreal Canadiens, Philadelphia Flyers Tags: , , ,

The NHL has named it’s three stars for the week, and our Mr. Price is number one. Edmonton goalie Nikolai Khabibulin is number 2 and Philadelphia’s Jaromir Jagr is number 3.

Congratulations Carey. My wife is extra thrilled.

Here’s what NHL.com released:

Price, the First Star, allowed only 4 goals on 80 shots as he beat the Flyers on Wednesday and led the Canadiens to a home-and-home sweep of the rival Bruins on Thursday and Saturday.

Khabibulin, the Second Star, improved his record to 5-0-2 this season and helped the Oilers extend their winning streak to five games by recording wins over the Canucks, Capitals and Blues.

Jagr, the Third Star, busted out offensively after failing to score a goal in his first seven games back in the League. He has 5 goals in his last four games for the Flyers. That includes a pair of two-goal efforts, including Saturday against the Hurricanes, when he also had the game-winner.

He’s going to be named first star many times in his career.

What I really like is that he’s got his mojo back. I love how he stays calm and relaxed and has this “what’s the big deal?” kind of attitude. You’d never know he was a Habs goalie dealing with 21,000 critics all the time.

  2. Dennis Kane Says:

He’s cool as a cucumber, Darth. The complete opposite of Glenn Hall, who threw up before most games, and Terry Sawchuk who got so wound up he ended up hating his job. I remember watching the draft when the Habs took Price and I was upset because I was hoping for an impact goal-scorer. But now I see what they were thinking.

  3. Danno Says:

What the heck happened to Jaroslav Halak?

He’s having a hell of a time in St. Louis and now Brian Elliott has taken on the starter’s role:

I guess we didn’t do so bad after all trading Halak for Lars Eller and Ian Schultz.

  4. Dennis Kane Says:

You bet, Danno. Eller and Schultz. Can’t say enough about Eller. And the little I saw of Schultz in preseason, I liked. Tough and will drop the gloves. A future regular on the big club, I think.

  5. DarthAlexander Says:

Dennis – in that draft we could have had Anze Kopitar (not sure who else).

I was ticked off that we went for a goalie as well but I am glad we did. Too bad we couldn’t have gotten both. But I am sure as heck happy we got Price.

NHL.com also describes how Carey Price is making his way up the list of legendary Habs goaltenders:

“With a career record of 102-80-26, Price is one victory behind Georges Vezina (103-81-5) for 11th place on the franchise win list.”

  7. Christopher Cordahi Says:

I’m a bit disappointed with that career record. If it wasn’t for the stupidity of the NHL that record would be 102-106. First star of the week is a good start. Next up will be first star for November and next June, the Vezina.

Price was a very good pick that year, and I think the only one left on the team from that draft, not counting Palushaj who we received in exchange for D’Agostini.

  8. Mayo Says:

Can u believe Scott Cullen from TSN has Price ranked #11 and Tim Thomas #3. I have sent the jackass e-mails complaining that his stupid scoring system sucks as much as he sucks on boston and other US eastern teams.

His response to me is he was a die-hard habs fan growing up. I didn`t and still don`t believe him. A jackass and a liar.

  9. Dennis Kane Says:

Mayo, I don’t know anything about this guy but to have Thomas at 3 and Price at 11 sounds ludicrous. Good for you for taking him to task.
