One Small Thing About Outdoor Games

I scored this full-size poster at the local Tim Hortons. There was a framed one on the wall and I saw the manager and his co-manager wife sitting with a guy so I went up and asked if I could have it when the Heritage thing was all over. He told me it was already spoken for but wouldn’t you know it, the fellow they were talking to was a Tim Horton’s sales rep who said he’d get one sent over when he got back to wherever he came from. Which he did.

The one thing I’d complain about if I was going to complain about outdoor NHL games is the big empty space surrounding the ice before getting to even the first row.

Maybe children and short adults could stand down there and fill it up.

  1. Those tickets at McMahon stadium aren’t cheap either considering the lousy view most people will have of the game.

That was a smart move by the sales rep. Dennis. Look at all the free advertising he got for Tim Hortons just by giving you the poster!

I think Timmy’s owes you some coffees and a few boxes of donuts for promoting their fine products 🙂

  2. Way to go for it, Dennis ! One can never be afraid to hear the word “NO”
I agree with Danno whole-heartedly…they should even issue coupons from your site !!! Cha-ching
Great to read your blog of getting awesome tickets for Tuesdays game, hopefully we don’t whack your team too severely…
Do defence issues ever go away?? Have a wonderful time downtown, I’ll be watchin’ for ya….

  3. Hi Jan! I can’t wait for Tuesday’s at the game in Vancouver. Just can’t wait. Both teams have some injuries but I’m a little concerned about three players – the Sedins and Kesler. But we can stop anybody. Except Edmonton. And the Islanders. I have to say, Jan, that your team looks like they could go deep in the playoffs. But it’s going to depend on Luongo and it’s going to depend on their mental state – they’ve had good terams before but for whatever reason haven’t gotten it done at the end and I know there’s a lot of antsy Canucks fans out there, you too probably. But this might be the best Canucks team ever so who know? Looks to me like it could be a Habs-Canucks final. Pretty sure.

  4. Danno, I never thought to mention about the free advertising. I’m just shaking my head about the lost dollars and donuts now. It never occurred to me at the time, even though it was my plan all along to post it on the day of the game. And yes, most people, even those in the front rows, are a million miles away, in freezing cold. I think they should hold outdoor games indoors.

  5. Dennis that’s the difference between you and Gary Bettman. You love hockey but don’t care as much about money. On the other hand, Bettman loves money and doesn’t give a damn about hockey 🙂

  6. Blue Bayou, I like one of the comments under the story about how Bettman doesn’t mind keeping Phoenix alive but can’t wait to pull ther plug on Edmonton, which is a true hockey city with tremendous fans. What a shame if this guy is reponsible for Edmonton losing their team. Maybe he’ll move them to the Florida everglades. C’mon Edmonton, get that new rink built before this weasel has a chance to do damage.

  7. Dennis, Gary Bettman is the hockey world’s Hosni Mubarak. Something must be done to remove this weasle-faced dictator.

  8. Danno, maybe it’s going to take an overthrow and if so, I’ll be there. I can’t take his thinking about hockey markets. Imagine if Edmonton lost their team? And of course Bettman probably isn’t crazy about a team there. It’s a smaller city, it’s too northern, too cold, and they’re in last place. Heck, he could have a last place team in San Diego, which would make more sense to him. He really is a weasel.

  9. Here is the note they sent me. They are up to almost 7000 signatures now…

    Dear Danno,

Thank you for signing the “Remove Gary Bettman from the position of NHL Commissioner” petition at
Your signature is valuable and makes a real difference. Please encourage others to sign the petition as well. Forward the text below to everyone who might be interested:

I wanted to draw your attention to this important petition that I recently signed:

“Remove Gary Bettman from the position of NHL Commissioner”

I really think this is an important cause, and I’d like to encourage you to add your signature, too. It’s free and takes just a few seconds of your time.

  10. Dennis, we can’t get past the first round with this team. Not with D-men like Hamrlik, Mara, even Wiz. They are not top 4 d-men. We need a stallion and they ain’t it. I can’t wait til Hamrlik and players like AK47 are gone and only when we have Gorges and Markov back will we have a chance so my hopes aren’t high with the team we’re icing now. Not even close. 3-0? Pathetic team effort. But then again ice conditions look pretty bad. Just hoping no one gets injured.

  11. I get Timmy’s to come here and Dennis gets the donuts. Something wrong with this picture!!

ps I’ll share some with ya DK
