Keep Your Eyes Off The Girls And On The Puck, Boys

The Canadiens play in Carolina Thursday evening which means two things; It’s a must-win game for the slumping Habs, and the Hurricanes Storm Squad will wiggle like crazy.

I’m not a fan of cheerleaders at hockey games, although I can’t really pinpoint why. Maybe it’s because I’m a bit of a traditionalist. I also miss the Queen’s portrait at one end of a rink too, for what it’s worth, as was the case at the old Winnipeg Arena, Maple Leaf Gardens, and the Orillia Community Centre.

Imagine, I’d rather see the Queen than a bevy of scantily-clad beauties shaking and jiggling.

I just think cheerleading is a football, basketball thing.

I’m also worried Montreal will follow suit, like Edmonton has done recently, and add limbered up lovelies to the Bell Centre. I don’t think I’d like it. And Toe Blake and the gang, sitting in their luxury boxes high in the sky, probably wouldn’t be crazy about it either. Do we really need rah rah at the Bell ?

Maybe if the ladies did pole dances it might be better.

Below, the Hurricanes Storm Squad looking lovely.

  1. i hear the leafs are auditioning some of the girls from the 1st. i think they have a good chance of making it even tho they have french accents.

  2. At Ottawa 67 games the cheerleaders look the same age as the players. I enjoy watching 17 year old boys check, hit and punch each other out. I’d have a different opinion if I were still a teenager, but now I find it creepy watching 17 year old girls “dance”.

  3. We really need this game. If 9th place Carolina were to win, they’d only be 4 points behind with 2 games in hand.

  4. Dennis, I’m with you on this football and basketball with cheerleaders only. I don’t dispute the lovely ladies as eyecandy. How about utilizing them to hand out promotional items, greet fans coming into an arena and milling around at the concession stands. Tossing t-shirts and scraping up ice is ridiculous.

They can even do pole dances on skates.

Merry Christmas to you Dennis and all your loyal readers.

  5. Diane, I hope your Christmas is wonderful and may you have a fantastic 2011 in your new house. We’re all coming down for a housewarming party so get ready.
