  1. Dennis,

I have been waiting for this day for a while now where all the great hockey people on this site can get together and voice there opinions. I think all in all this is a great looking team. Its got the right amount of veterans, role players and highly skilled players to build a great team chemistry. The only thing that has got my scratching my head a bit is the absence of washington capitals d-man Mike Green, this guy is 19th in overall league scoring ( first amoung d-men) and has got the 4th best plus minus in the league with a +15 not to mention experience of going deep into the playoffs and knowing what its like to play under real pressure. I think that I would of rather had him on the team over Drew Doughty ( not to discredit Doughty in anyway, I just feel hes to young and lacks alot of experience). Scott Neidermeyer being selected as the Captain was a fantastic choice, he has been there and done that and won every prestigious trophy at every level. Alot of people thought Crosby was deserving of it and im sure a case could be made for him but he’ll have his time and from what I understand he isnt a vocal leader yet. I cannot wait for the games to start and see how we match up with everybody, on paper it looks like the only team that will rival Canada will be Russia. All credit to Steve Yzerman and his staff for putting together a great team.

  2. Brendan Morrow is one I see rarely and know almost nothing about. And I’m not sure about Shea Weber instead of Green. And I suppose Martin St. Louis and Vinny Lecavalier would have made it if there were two teams instead of one. The thing is, Jordy, I think Yzerman is a good guy to do this because he takes it seriously. I’m also a little concerned about the Russians. They’ve got Ovechkin, Malkin and Kovalchuk. Imagine.

  3. Hey Dennis;Well I think it is a very good team,a great endeavour taken by Steve Yzerman and his crew, I think that there is alot of talent that people can pick out of the hat and try to make a better team, never mind folks.I think the pros have made their selections and to be in good Canadian form, all should agree to support these guys 100%.People can be upset at their favoritte players not making the squad, but there are only so many positions to be filled and great selections were made.GO CANADA GO.(oh ya not a big fan of this new pepsi cheer, kinda seems almost american to me)

  4. You’re right Derry. We’ll support them through thick and then. It’s a good team and we all respect Yzerman. Oh, and the cheer? Can’t see it ever catching on. Canadians aren’t like that. We just cheer what comes out of our mouth, not something memorized.

  5. I’m wondering if anyone knows why Mike Green was chosen. Is he too offensive minded? Does he get out of position too often? And as hard a hitter as Phaneuf is, maybe he makes a few too many mistakes and that can’t happen against teams like Russia. I’m still wondering about Shea Weber too but I don’t see him enough to even know.

  6. One quarter Canadian—this cheer begins with “EH”. Yet another Pepsi marketing fiasco ………….I agree with Derry about cheering with whatever comes out. Go Team Canada and in the meantime, Go Canucks!

  7. Dennis,

Shea Webber is somebody you’ll probably really start to like once you see a bit of him. He hits as hard as Phaneuf but never puts him self out of position because of it. He also puts up great numbers (53 points last year) and is rock solid in his own end. The best comparison i can make would be that hes a mixture of Dan Boyle and Dion Phaneuf. As for why Mike Green wasnt picked , I really dont have a clue. Like you say maybe its because he is to offensive minded. ( his +15 might say otherwise since im sure some of that is from being a solid d-man)

  8. Jordy, I remember Shea Weber more from the World Juniors when he and Phaneuf were men against boys. So I suppose he’s rock solid back there and won’t take any guff from those speedy Europeans. So picking him makes sense.
