Two woman died today, and one in particular I’m grieving for – Annette Funicello.
Yes, Margaret Thatcher was the Iron Lady and made her mark as a tough British Prime Minister. But she was no Annette Funicello.
Annette was a Mouseketeer in the Mickey Mouse Club when we were enjoying our first television. She was young and wholesome and soon to be well-endowed. Exactly the type of girl I would have loved to have played doctor with or at least lived next door to.
A few years later she would graduate to the big screen, and she looked sensational as she bounced down the beach with Frankie Avalon and then broke into song or dance. My fantasies of playing doctor with her continued, only I think I decided I’d like to specialize in gynecology.
Annette Funicello was 70 and suffered from Multiple Sclerosis. It’s very sad.
