Game Day

Game day, with the boys in the City of Slovenly Mugs.

The Flyers have won two in a row and of course this needs to end. They have some injuries, including key guys Max Talbot with a broken leg and Daniel Briere suffering a concussion, and the Canadiens would love to win their fourth in a row to go nicely with their previous lump of win streaks that include one four-game and two five-game efforts.

In the background, trade deadline on TV has been droning on, and now it’s over. It’s always such a riveting time. A whack of media heavyweights gather on different channels and wait for a big-name player to move to another team. A clock counts down. The media guys speculate and wait. And wait some more. They study their smart phones and laptops. “Hold on,” one will say. “It looks like Florida has picked up prospect Red Buttons from Chicago for a 10th round pick.” They’ll analyze this for a while, and then wait and hope like crazy for another big alert.

Someone tweeted that next year, TradeCentre should have bands play.

And according to TSN’s Pierre LeBrun, the Canadiens made some sort of attempt to get Raffi Torres, who finally ended up in San Jose. They can have him.

  1. TSN should sell TradeCentre BINGO cards in advance of the 2014 program. That way, TSN’s James Duthie could call out numbers while nothing is happening on the trade front. Make it fun. Instead of calling numbers Duthie could call out the names of potential trade players instead. Those BINGO cards would be collectible and possibly valuable one day.

If TSN does this I expect a cut.
