Colin James Laughed Heartily

My day has come to an end. Hopefully I’ll wake up tomorrow.

This Monday of the August 1st long weekend is one of the busiest days on the calendar for BC Ferries, and I’m done like dinner. I feel like I’ve just killed a four-minute penalty all by myself. And all I can mention about the madness was that I sold tickets today and bluesman/rocker Colin James and his family went through. I see him once or twice a year as he has a place on Savary Island and travels back and forth between there and Vancouver.

A couple of years ago when I was working on the ship he was on and I told him then that I really liked his version of Van Morrison’s “Into the Mystic.” He said he loved Van the Man and I said I did too, and then I said something silly like I’d write him a couple of hits but I’d need the royalties, or become his agent or something along those lines, and he laughed heartily and we went our merry way.

That’s my story today. Goodnight.

  1. Dennis, you’re a lucky man to meet Colin James; one of the best musicians in the world. Thankfully he’s remained Canada’s secret. Usually it’s all downhill once a Canadian artist hits it big in the US.
Next time he passes through can you use your influence and ask him to release another album like National Steel?

  2. colin is one of the very finest guitar players in the country. he has integrity and the blues. a former bandmate of mine also played in colins band and has some neat stories……………. wouldn’t it be something if sugar kane re-emerged and got together with colin james. but maybe i’m just dreaming, or having a microdot flashback.

  3. Hey Hobo, you’re so right. He has integrity and never sold out. And yes, it’s just a microdot flashback. Sugar Kane’s put out to pasture.

  4. If Colin met Sugar on the ferry, I know they’d soon be jamming together. Colin James with special guest Sugar Kane live October 13 at the Powell River Evergreen Theatre. I can only imagine the behind the scenes blogs he’d be sharing.

  5. And for me it would be fantastic if Sugar could make a surprise appearance at Colin’s September 24 concert in Carp.

  6. Christopher, the problem with me being Colin’s lead guitarist and songwriter and possibly lead singer is that I’ll be very busy owning and stick-boying the Habs. I don’t know where I’ll find the time.

  7. Dennis, Thank you for showing how a four-minute penalty can be killed solo. You will be in inspiring owner!

  8. Hey Dennis, I knew Colin had property on Savory, not far from my girlfriends place there.I have never seen him there, wrong time I guess.

  9. Hi Derry. Your girlfriend’s lucky and smart to have property on Savary. As you know, it’s the Hawaii of the North.
