LOS ANGELES — The Montreal Canadiens selected Morgan Ellis of East Bideford in the fourth round of the NHL Entry Draft here at the Staples Center on Saturday afternoon.

Ellis, who was ranked 97th among North American skaters, heard his name called 117th overall. Ellis is a six-foot-one and 197-pound defenceman.

The 18-year-old son of Glen and June Ellis was recently named team captain of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s Cape Breton Screaming Eagles.

  1. I’m happy they drafted a Cape Breton boy, even if he never makes the NHL. If he’s standard NS stock though, he’ll work hard and do his best. Really, what else can you ask for from anyone in any line of work? It shows you how old I am, Dennis, that I remember Tinordi’s father playing. Ugh. Hope to see his kid playing for the Habs someday though. I think he’s a solid, safe bet. A new linemate in the making for Subban? One can only hope.
