Canadian Ladies Love Their Hockey Gold

Two goals by teenager Marie-Phillip Poulin, and steller netminding by Shannon Szabados, who had honed her craft playing against male hockey players much of her career, helped Canada’s lovely ladies win their third consecutive gold medal, taking it to the Yanks 2-0 in the final played today.

Of course, I didn’t see the game because I’m working, so I have no idea what I’m talking about.

But I know the Canadian gals can play a fine game of hockey, and I’m wondering how they would have done against the Orillia Byer’s Bulldozer Midgets when I was a smallish-yet-shifty right winger.

They probably would have kicked our ass. And knowing me, I would have clutched and grabbed just for the fun of it, and they would have kicked my ass too.

Anyway, great for the gals!

Next, it’s the men’s turn.

  1. Hey Dennis;Don’t mean to rub it in but you missed a relly good game, these girls played their hearts out all the way.I truly believe that they would have won this no matter what. The reffing was good, she let them play hockey with no cheap calls at all.I’m equally as proud of our girls, they were put to the test and came through.when is all this excitement going to end?

  2. Dennis, O Canada when sung in celebration is always exciting.

Unfortunately I too missed the game but I snuck peeks at the score while working. Staring at the computer waiting for updates while twice short-handed by 2 players was very stressful.
I made it home just in time to catch the celebrations just after the game. I enjoyed watching them celebrate the gold medal they richly deserve, but it appears the IOC will be giving them a spanking for celebrating too much.

  3. Chris, as I’m sitting here writing this and eating Cracker Jacks, they just said on TV that the gals were on the ice drinking chapagne and beer. What’s wrong with that?

  4. Maybe the grumpy folks at the IOC are upset they weren’t invited to join in. If I ever have to take a urine test, beer and champagne will be my preparation.

  5. Congratulations Canada! What a fine 3rd period. That’s all I could watch last night. Boy did they deserve to win and what puck possession!

U.S. will look back and see eventually their accomplishments, too.

Well done and the better team won.
